Black Ops 1 and 2 Ports Have Apparently Leaked

It would seem as though Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 may be coming to modern platforms.

According to PlayStation Game Size, an account that monitors PlayStation’s backend for updates, new game listings for PS4 and PS5 versions of Black Ops 1 and 2 have mysteriously appeared on PlayStation’s servers. The account tweeted images of the icons for both games, which showcase the logos from their original releases.

These listings come weeks after a South Korean ratings board posted new listings for both Black Ops games. Since then, fans have been confused about whether this was an error, or if there was something quietly in the works. It’s now being speculated that these games could arrive as a shadowdrop during the Nintendo Direct tomorrow.

Modern Warfare 4 is slated to release on Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, but Activision may want to grease the wheels ahead of time to get Call of Duty fans interested. The Modern Warfare 2 remaster was also shadowdropped back in 2020, so there is precedence for dropping something like this out of the blue.

The news also comes at an interesting time, as Black Ops 7 just added a Black Ops Classic playlist, which alters the gameplay to more aligned with the original Black Ops games. Were they just conditioning players for a return to these games? Only time will tell, but it would be a bold decision. Call of Duty has long avoided remastering fan-favorite games in the franchise, as it seems to distract from the newer games and pulls players away. However, with Black Ops 7 not doing too hot and Modern Warfare 4 being just a handful of months away, this may be a smart move.

If these rumors are real, it remains to be seen if these ports will include the full packages. Both games featured a meaty campaign, franchise-defining multiplayer modes, and revolutionary iterations of the Zombies co-op mode. If both games have all three modes and their respective DLC content, this could be massive. As of right now, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

We’ve reached out to Activision for comment.
