PS5 exclusive Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is coming to PC a little quicker than expected

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach has been rated for PC by the ESRB, suggesting a release is on the way soon.

That will likely come as little surprise, considering the first Death Stranding game also came to PC. The original PS4 release was November 2019, with PC following eight months later in July 2020. Then the Director’s Cut version came to PS5 in September 2021, followed by PC in March 2022.

Death Stranding 2 released on PS5 exclusively in July this year, so this ESRB rating five months later would suggest a PC release is coming a little quicker this time. Could we see an announcement at next month’s The Game Awards?

While the ESRB rating doesn’t mention the publisher, the previous PC versions were published by 505 Games. It would appear porting to PC is getting quicker and smoother.

Death Stranding’s PC release proved popular, making 505 Games £20m in half a year. That was the most money made by a 505 Games release in 2020, beating Remedy’s Control.

As reported in July 2021, the PS4 and PC releases combined had sold 5m copies. While sales of the Director’s Cut version haven’t been released, in November 2022 Kojima Productions stated over 10 million players had played the game across all platforms since release.

Sony is still finding success releasing games on PC. Last year, Helldivers 2 became Sony’s fastest-selling PlayStation game of all time, with 12m copies sold across both PC and PS5.

Shift Up has also seen success with Stellar Blade – it outsold the likes of Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, and Marvel’s Spider-Man, and is the best-ever PC performance for a PS-exclusive single-player game, according to the company.

As for what’s next for Death Stranding, it’s unclear if a Director’s Cut of the sequel is also in development. Kojima previously stated he has a concept for Death Stranding 3, but won’t make it himself.
