Switch 2 Zelda spin-off Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment sells 1m copies in less than three months

It has been less than three months since Nintendo and Koei Tecmo released its chaotic but oh-so-satisfying Zelda hack-and-slash spin-off Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, but the game seems to be doing pretty well for the two companies.

Over the weekend, Koei Tecmo announced that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment – which made its frantic debut in November of last year – has already sold over 1m copies worldwide on Nintendo’s Switch 2 platform.

These sales figures for Nintendo’s latest crossover with the Warriors series, which also includes Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild spin-off Age of Calamity, were shared in Koei Tecmo’s third quarter financial results (thanks, Genki).

While Koei Tecmo only published Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment in Japan, a note within its third quarter financial results confirms this latest number is for global sales (see image below).

Since its initial launch in November, updates for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment have added additional weapons, as well as new Vicious enemies. Our Alex took Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment out for a spin ahead of its release last year, calling it the series’ “richest offering yet”.

Elsewhere in Nintendo-related news, just yesterday we got another look at the company’s upcoming film, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Here, we got our first look at Yoshi as well as a very feisty Birdo.
