Arc Raiders breaks its PC record yet again as it inches towards half a million concurrent players

Arc Raiders has blown past its concurrent player count on Steam yet again, hitting close to half a million PC players online at the same time over the weekend.

According to SteamDB, the popular extraction shooter hit its peak of 481,996 yesterday, topping the previous peak by roughly 30,000 players. The game is also out on consoles whose player figures remain largely a mystery, so even this figure is only a piece of the wider picture.

Why has Arc Raiders broken its concurrent player record yet again? Well, there may be two major reasons. For one, word of mouth. The game continues to garner praise from a vast variety of friendly fans, including many influencers. It seems as though the game has found a gap in the market where it can thrive, even at a time where bigger franchises like Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 are still wobbling around.

The second reason can likely be attributed to recent major content drops. Arc Raiders recently held a massive community event to open up its latest map: Stella Montis. The playerbase managed to smash this resource-gathering challenge in only one day, despite the developers at Embark making it harder to finish. As such, there’s a lot to do right now for fresh and experienced players alike.

Can Arc Raiders hit the 500,000 mark? Probably! There are still a handful of events yet to happen this year including a new weather effect on maps which should maintain interest for the short term at least. On top of that, we’re near the holiday season. If Arc Raiders can keep players engaged for a few more weeks it’ll enter a period where a bunch of people are off work and school and can spend their free time throwing purple gear at me during night raids. Nice!

If you’re curious to read about what the big deal is with Arc Raiders, you can read Eurogamer’s review. It dives into all the merits of the extraction shooter, as well as the use of generative AI voice acting which sadly stands opposed to an otherwise enjoyable game.
