Fresh footage of Resident Evil Requiem was shown on Japanese television, and it’s very reminiscent of classic series gameplay.
The footage was part of a special programme, and has been shared on social media by series insider Dusk Golem.
It’s only thirty seconds long, but it shows protagonist Grace Ashcroft exploring a creepy mansion in third-person, shooting at zombies before being grabbed and nibbled on.
It’s not much to go on, admittedly, and that description alone probably sounds incredibly trite. But it does suggest a return to the sort of gameplay and setting that made Resident Evil such a popular series, which will be music to the ears of longtime fans.
Specifically, it looks very reminiscent of Resident Evil 1 – although that’s likely not the iconic Spencer Mansion we’ll be exploring.

Dusk Golem clarified the footage will be from a censored Japanese version, which typically censors headshots and dismemberment, for example.
The mainline series has strayed from its roots somewhat from Resident Evil 4 onwards, experimenting with new settings, new perspectives, and new protagonists. Resident Evil Requiem, meanwhile, seems to be attempting to appease a wide spectrum of fans: there’s a new protagonist, but linked to the older games; it allows players to shift between first and third-person perspectives; and it returns to Racoon City at last.
Now we know there’s a new mansion to explore, to boot.
Further, producer Masato Kumazawa confirmed characters from previous games in the series will return, though told fans not to “over-expect or hype it”. Fans have long been speculating the return of series favourite Leon Kennedy, but we still don’t know for sure if he’ll appear.
