Skyrim Switch 2 edition announced, so yes you can play Bethesda’s RPG yet another way before Elder Scrolls 6

Yet another version of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has arrived before The Elder Scrolls 6, with a Switch 2 release of Bethesda’s Anniversary Edition available now.

Bethesda and Nintendo announced the news with a new gameplay trailer, which you can see below.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Anniversary Edition on Switch 2 includes faster load times and enhanced resolution, along with some exclusive content from Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild such as the Master Sword, Hylian Shield and Champion’s Tunic, which were similarly featured in the original Switch release.

And, as you would expect, Switch 2 adopters will also get Skyrim’s three official expansions – that’s Dawnguard, Dragonborn and Hearthfire – along with the base game, and “hundreds” of unique Creation Club items.

Those who already own The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Anniversary Edition on Switch can download the Switch 2 version on their newer consoles for free. “Owners of the base edition on Nintendo Switch can purchase the Anniversary Upgrade, to then download the game on Nintendo Switch 2,” Bethesda added.

As for the future of the series, The Elder Scrolls 6 is “still a long way off” according to Bethesda’s Todd Howard, though its development is now an “everyday thing”. Back in 2023, Howard said he wished he had been a little more casual with the game’s announcement. Additionally, in October 2023, Skyrim’s lead designer Bruce Nesmith said Bethesda announced Elder Scrolls 6 when it did in a bid to appease any angry mobs which had their “pitchforks and torches” out, desperate to know more.

More recently, Howard didn’t rule out the possibility of adapting The Elder Scrolls for TV, though the studio exec added he was “willing to say ‘no’ for a decade”, like he did with Fallout.
