Hollow Knight: Silksong has sold over 7m copies in three months, and no that doesn’t include Game Pass numbers

Team Cherry’s oh-so-challenging platformer Hollow Knight: Silksong has sold over 7m copies since its release in September.

Silksong is the follow up to Hollow Knight, and ever since it was announced back in 2019, many were left desperate to get their hands on it. It finally materialised three months ago across multiple platforms, crashing many digital store fronts in the process thanks to the sudden influx of eager players. How many eager players? Well, quite a lot!

Team Cherry has today announced it has sold over 7m copies of Silksong in the last few months. That number is full fat sales, and does not include the “millions more” who have played via Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service.

“It’s a truly staggering number of players, more than we could have ever expected,” Team Cherry said. “Watching the community grow, seeing the amazing art, the mods, the unexpected strategies, and the support between players through the game’s challenges has been hugely rewarding for us here at home.

“Your continued enthusiasm remains a massive motivator as we work towards expanding the game even further.”

Speaking of expanding the game even further, the developer went on to detail Silksong’s first expansion known as Sea of Sorrow, which is coming out next year. This nautically themed expansion will include new areas, bosses, tools and more when it arrives as a free update for all players.

On its release, we awarded Silksong five stars. “Pretty and charmingly mean-spirited, this is a game filled with revelations and genuine personality,” reads Eurogamer’s Silksong review.

For more, Team Cherry recently flirted with the idea of more entries in its Hollow Knight series, which (if they ever do materialise) would sit alongside the studio’s previous games, rather than act as any kind of continuation that would require an understanding of earlier lore to appreciate.
