Ace Combat 7, the brilliant flight sim combat game from Bandai Namco, has sold over 7,000,000 copies since releasing in January, 2019.

Announced on official Ace Combat social media accounts, the milestone came with a message of gratitude from director Kazutoki Kono. It reads: “We are deeply grateful that so many players have continued flying with us for so long. We look forward to meeting you again in the next skies.”

In addition, a collection of free wallpapers were linked to Ace Combat fiends looking to relive their time in those skies from the comfort of their various devices. These are sourced from a wide variety of Ace Combat games too, so if you’re like me you can decorate your phone with an Ace Combat 5 background. Rest in piece Chopper.

This milestone comes as Ace Combat 8: Wings of Thieve is on the horizon. Announced during The Game Awards 2025, this title is set to release on PC and consoles in 2026. It’s also set to feature an “emotionally charged” narrative as well as multiplayer modes, so it’s one to look out for.

Ian Higton took a look at Ace Combat 7’s VR capabilities back when it first released back in 2019, and came away impressed, though somewhat disappointed in its limited scope. He wrote: “VR implementation for the full Ace Combat 7 experience would have made it a PSVR system seller for sure but even so, if you’re a VR enthusiast, I’d say this experience is worth the price of the full game.”
