Marathon confirms global release times, launches cinematic music video, doubles down on its unique, weird art direction

Marathon‘s moment of truth is almost here, and following a convincing Server Slam test, chatter around Bungie’s latest game has seemingly turned a corner. Something that surely won’t be disappointing those jumping in is the game’s unique audiovisual sauce, and the cinematic music video that’s arrived alongside the game’s release times is a stunner, doubling down on its unique art style.

On 3rd March, we got a “launch cinematic” featuring ‘In Death We’ve Just Begun’ by Poppy and Son Lux. As a reminder, Son Lux founder Ryan Lott is the main composer behind the soundtrack which covers the entire game. You can watch the 7-minute-ish trailer below:

At the time of writing, the full song, which runs for 3 minutes and 24 seconds, is available on “all major music platforms,” marking the pre-launch of the game and final countdown hype if you’re on board with its governing aesthetic and, more importantly, its brutal gameplay loop that’s perfectly recreated in this short, of sorts. That Runner squad isn’t doing so great… until it does, but that’s not the end of all the drama. Tau Ceti IV is brutal, and anyone familiar with extraction shooters should recognize what goes down in the cinematic.

Meanwhile, IGN has posted the full look at the global release times for Marathon, which we’re resharing here in case you want the quick rundown to plan accordingly tomorrow:

Thursday, March 5, 2026:

  • PST (San Francisco): 10am
  • CST (Austin, Mexico City): 12pm
  • EST (New York): 1pm
  • GMT (London): 6pm

Friday, March 6, 2026:

As a reminder, developer Bungie also shared a generous look at the game’s roadmap during its first few months, including free seasonal content, wipes every three months, and evolving experiences that should be making good use of the studio’s ‘live narrative’ experience.
