Arc System Works, the studio best known for its stellar fighting games including the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue series, has unveiled its latest endeavour: a simian-themed card game that’s brilliantly titled Goritaire. It’s out very soon too, coming to PS5, Switch, iOS, and Android in a couple of weeks.

Goritaire is officially described (thanks Gematsu) as a “solo card-based survival game centred on building a troop of seven or more gorillas”. That involves drawing from a deck of cards containing only gorillas and bananas. What happens from there on out is, however, a little unclear, with the game’s Steam page skimping a little on the specifics.
There’s talk of “diverse actions unique to each stage” that players will need to “strategically master”, with the goal being to “secure the necessary resources to reign as the master of the jungle”. The golden rule, though is a simple one: “Bananas are essential for survival,” Arc System Works explains. “If the supply fails, the troop scatters, resulting in defeat.”
Beyond that, I’ve got no idea – the announcement trailer is in Japanese, so unless you’re familiar with the language, you’ll mostly be spending its 30-second run-time admiring the little images of gorillas as they flip and snooze, while giant bananas slam into the ground. The Steam images are equally mysterious, featuring words like “equality”, “mounting”, “destitution”, “silverback”, “sage”, “crescent”, “divination, “cooking”, “planting”, and “call”. Honestly, I’m bamboozled but definitely intrigued!
And with Goritaire scheduled to launch for PS5, Switch, iOS, and Android on 18th March, it won’t be long until all is revealed!
