Weapons director Zach Cregger is the latest to be tackling a Resident Evil movie adaptation, and it has to be said, if the latest leak is indeed true, it sounds like we are all in for one truly bananas experience.

Now, you may remember last year, a short teaser for the upcoming Resident Evil film made the rounds online. This particular leak spoke about a laid-back organ courier by the name of Bryan, who ends up knocking over “a strange woman” while driving on a snowy road en route to Raccoon City General Hospital. However, what’s this? The lady survives! And there is actually a full-blown outbreak kicking off all around!? Oh no!
We now have a few more details thanks to another leak, and if they do indeed turn out to be accurate, poor Bryan is in for a right time. The latest leak gives the entire plot and reveals Bryan has a pregnant wife, which he is trying to get back to, but there lies a whole lot of tentacle-based chaos between him and her.
You see – according to a leaked script, which was shared and then removed from reddit (which adds to its validity), before a summary of it all was preserved over on Resetera – it is not just zombie men and women Bryan will have to contend with, but tentacled-mouthed dogs, zombies that puke acid and – erm – zombie toddlers which he will have to fend off with a mop, as well.
Along the way, Bryan also becomes infected, and as he tries desperately to deliver an antivirus, things go more than a tad awry, and he doesn’t get a happy ending. Rather, he transforms without realising and kills those trying to develop the cure before, I kid you not, he joins their bodies with his. Like I said, it all sounds wild, and if true, Cregger is really making the world of Resident Evil his own.
Cregger – whose previous work includes 2022’s Barbarian, which our Matt describes as “wonderfully unpredictable” – was first announced to be helming the next Resident Evil movie in March of last year. Since then, the director has assured fans that his adaptation will be “unlike any of the previous films” in the franchise, which certainly sounds to be a fair enough statement given everything I have just read.
As for the games, the latest series release Resident Evil Requiem made its debut earlier this year, and has been met with critical and fan acclaim.
We recently awarded Resident Evil Requiem five stars, with our Matt calling it “both a masterful bit of suffocating horror and a nostalgic, fan-thrilling victory lap for the legendary series”. Soon after its debut, Requiem saw the biggest concurrent Steam player count in Resident Evil history.
