Life is Strange TV series lands Yellowjackets and Jennifer’s Body director for first episodes

Karyn Kusama is slated to direct the first two episodes of Amazon’s Life is Strange TV series.

Kusama is a three-time Emmy nominee, with her other directorial works including Yellowjackets, The Man in the High Castle, Dead Ringers and The Consultant. On the film side of things, Kusama directed the Megan Fox-starring comedy horror Jennifer’s Body.

Kusama joins Chloe Price and Max Caulfield actors Maisy Stella and Tatum Grace Hopkins on the show, which will adapt the original Life is Strange story for TV.

“The show follows Max, a photography student, who discovers she can rewind time while saving the life of her childhood best friend, Chloe,” read the official logline, as shared by Variety. “As she struggles to understand this new skill, the pair investigate the mysterious disappearance of a fellow student, uncovering a dark side to their town that will ultimately force them to make an impossible life or death choice that will impact them forever.”

The adaptation will be led, produced, and penned by The End of the F***ing World writer Charlie Covell, alongside Story Kitchen executive producers, Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson.

As for the games, the next Life is Strange entry is set to release on 26th March, across Xbox Series X/S, PC and PlayStation 5. It’s known as Reunion, and as the name suggests, reunites Chloe and Max.

I went hands-on with Life of Strange: Reunion earlier this year. “I felt genuinely emotional seeing the two girls who I thought had said their final goodbye to each other back together again… I just hope the rest of Life is Strange: Reunion’s story holds the same gravitas and momentum, so that this reunion can really stick its final landing,” I wrote in Eurogamer’s Life is Strange: Reunion preview.
