Resident Evil series executive producer, Jun Takeuchi, has written to Resident Evil players across the world, thanking “all the fans who have supported us along the way since the release of our first game on 22nd March, 1996 – exactly thirty years ago today.
“Last month, we released Resident Evil Requiem,” Takeuchi wrote. “With the return to Raccoon City, the place where it all began, we combined the two hearts of the series – horror and action – and packed them both into one title. And now, Requiem has reached over six million players around the world. Thank you all so much.”
If you were hoping for a little insight into what’s next for the storied franchise, I’m afraid Takeuchi was otherwise pretty vague.
A message to all our fans from the Resident Evil series executive producer, Jun Takeuchi, on our 30th anniversary.
Our deepest thanks and appreciation to all of you. 🌿❤️ pic.twitter.com/nUZUUqy0hD

“Our team will continue to work hard to bring all of you even more wonderful experiences in the future – and it would be an honour if you continued along with us on that journey. Thank you again for your support.”
Were you hoping for a little more than that? Yeah. Me, too. At least we know more “wonderful experiences” are on the way, though, I guess?
One of the biggest questions to come out of Requiem was, of course, Leon’s wedding ring. Director Koshi Nakanishi responded to Eurogamer’s request for more information while expertly dodging the question, writing: “The answer will become clear some day, but not just yet. What we wanted to convey in the final scene is simple: Leon now has a ‘place to go home to’, and we hope you can imagine the peaceful moments he spends there.”
Earlier this month, Capcom announced a new story expansion, which will “delve deeper into the world of Requiem”, was in development.
