Minecraft World, a new £50 million theme park based on Mojang’s seminal sandbox world, will open at London’s Chessington World of Adventures next year.
Minecraft maker Mojang said it has been working with theme park specialists Merlin Entertainments to create an adventure “packed with attractions and things to do”, including Minecraft-themed attractions, interactive adventures, epic block-built playscapes, and themed retail and dining.
Merlin claims it will be “one of our most ambitious theme park developments in recent years”, and is working closely with Mojang “to ensure every ride, attraction and theming of the land feels unmistakably Minecraft”.
“We’re planning the first-ever Minecraft rollercoaster, the world’s biggest Minecraft shop, tasty Minecraft-themed food, opportunities to meet the mobs, and lots more,” the team announced, following Minecraft Live.
“This is a truly epic collaboration between Mojang Studios and Merlin Entertainments, but we also recruited creators to help with some of the trickier challenges. We’ll share more on Minecraft World soon.”
Who, exactly, those creators are is being kept under wraps for now.
“Minecraft World represents a meaningful milestone in our ongoing journey to expand the Minecraft universe,” said senior creative director of entertainment at Minecraft, Torfi Frans Ólafsson.
“We’re thrilled to have partnered with Merlin Entertainments to realise a place where you can literally be in the Minecraft Overworld and have an adventure of your own with your family and friends. The team at Merlin Entertainments and Mojang have worked hard to craft an experience that feels immersive, authentic and welcoming, and we can’t wait for our community to experience it.”
Yesterday, we reported that Minecraft Dungeons 2 is coming to PC via Xbox and Steam, PS5, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and Xbox Series and Game Pass later this year.
