Dragon’s Dogma 2 celebrates second anniversary with “special celebratory artwork” and a custom controller, as fans ponder: are we getting DLC?

Dragon’s Dogma 2 was a very special RPG even if some its bones could’ve used more work and the New Game Plus loop span its wheels without extra end-game content to give it juice. Still, like the original, it gained a dedicated following, so it’s not surprising to read two years later folks asking for a Dark Arisen-like DLC. Now, Capcom has celebrated its second anniversary, but we’re left with nothing but disappointment once again… or are we?

At the time of writing, Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s last update arrived on 9th April, 2025. To this day, the game still suffers from performance issues similar to those that impacted Monster Hunter Wilds (which, to be fair, have now been mostly solved). It’s been radio silence since last year as far as Capcom’s previous open-world RPG was concerned though. However, on 22nd March, Capcom shared a “special celebratory artwork” via Dragon’s Dogma’s social channels:

Any attention is good attention, or so they say, but many of us are still running on hopium when it comes to DD2 DLC news. So the good news (maybe, who knows) is that eagled-eyed fans might have spotted previously unseen designs in the artwork. In the background, surrounded by completely different dark blue lighting, we have a seemingly new character with their back turned on the party. Their single braid and armour/clothing aren’t in the game according to the players chiming in, and the theming seems suspiciously snow-themed. The official subreddit is already on the case, and there are many reasons to be optimistic.

But wait, there’s more. The letters in “2nd anniversary” marked in red can be rearranged to read “2nd Arisen.” Surely, that’s not a coincidence… is it? Now that the Resident Evil Requiem marketing period is over, could Capcom maybe be ready to return to its more niche, more overlooked project?

Meanwhile, if you’re feeling the magic again, Capcom has teamed up with GameSir to cook a limited-edition G7 Pro gamepad (hat tip to RPG Site).

Of course, Hideaki Itsuno’s departure in late 2024 likely affected Dragon’s Dogma’s future a great deal, yet it’s not unreasonable to think a game that had sold 4 million units by late 2025 deserves more love. Perhaps this seemingly innocuous bit of art teases more than it’s letting on, at least.
