Marvel Rivals Studio Actively ‘Working On’ a Switch 2 Version

Marvel Rivals is officially coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, according to its developers.

In an interview with IGN at the Game Developers Conference, I asked Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo if a Switch 2 version was still being considered. In response, he confirmed to IGN that it was actually in progress already. “We’re working on it, but when we have news, we’ll announce that one.”

Just to be super sure he was really confirming a Switch 2 version at last, I reworded the question and asked again. He again confirmed, saying: “We will do it.”

A Switch version of Marvel Rivals has been a point of discussion for a while now. Last year, prior to the console’s launch, we spoke with producer Weicong Wu, who said at the time that the studio was “in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits.” Then in July of that same year, game director Guangyun Chen said a Switch 2 version was still being considered, but noted that the team still didn’t have a dev kit in hand. Koo’s response suggests that this problem has finally been solved.

Unfortunately, if anyone was clamoring to play Marvel Rivals on mobile, that’s probably not happening, at least not any time soon. I asked Koo if Marvel Rivals, which will be on all other major platforms once the Switch 2 versions is out, would ever end up on iOS or Android.

“Yeah, this one on the mobile game is not going to work,” he said. “If we’re going to do a mobile, it’s going to be a whole different game. Because of the feedback, the touch. The controls are just so different.”

Even without a release window, the Switch 2 confirmation is good news for Nintendo fans who have been waiting to play the game for a year and a half now. Marvel Rivals is great, after all, and we gave it an 8/10 at launch, calling it “approachable, yet with a high skill ceiling to reach for, it’s consistently a great time no matter which fan-favourite comic book character and accompanying skillset is at your fingertips.” Season 7 just launched a few days ago, bringing White Fox to the ever-growing character roster.

We also spoke to the Marvel Rivals team about their plans for adding more characters to the game in the future, as well as the forbidden knowledge they’ve had to absorb in order to plan out the game’s year-long Path to Doomsday event.
