Mewgenics Switch 2 and PS5 ports seemingly confirmed by developers, currently in development

One month and a half into its life cycle, Mewgenics is quite the indie sensation, and players have been wondering about the chances of it making the jump to other platforms, following its glowing launch on PC via Steam. Well, it seems you won’t have to wait for too long, as Edmund McMillen and his team are beginning to tease the first ports.

The cat-centric, turn-based roguelite won’t be getting its first DLC for a while, and the same goes for mod support. However, it appears that getting the game to more gamers, no matter where they are, is a priority. On 25th March, co-creator and indie legend Edmund McMillen (of Binding of Isaac fame) took to X/Twitter to show off the in-dev Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game:

Right now, it looks and sounds perfectly fine, and considering it runs quite well out of the box on Steam Deck and other handheld PCs, the porting effort to Nintendo’s second little hybrid console shouldn’t be too complex. That said, certification can be tricky, so be patient while we wait for official news.

Right after McMillen shared the Switch 2 progress, executive producer Tyrone Rodriguez shared a similar video which shows the game running natively on PS5, being played with a DualSense controller.

This only leaves a potential Xbox Series X/S version of the game unconfirmed, though it’s safe to assume it’ll be happening sooner rather than later, too. Mind you, these Switch 2 and PS5 reveals aren’t official and haven’t been shared through official channels, but it’s nice to see more developers being transparent about their current efforts, either way.

Mewgenics is currently a Steam hit with Very Positive (91%) reviews and an all-time peak of 115,428 concurrent players (27,290 24-hour peak at the time of writing). It also sold over one million copies during its first week out. Impressive turnout for a tactical roguelite about ugly cats going on off-beat adventures (complimentary).
