Serious Sam is back! Announced during today’s Xbox Partner Showcase, Serious Sam: Shatterverse is a co-operative multiplayer Roguelite FPS from Devolver Digital and Behavior Interactive. It’s set to release some time this year on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
Serious Sam: Shatterverse – coming from the creators of Dead by Daylight – is a celebratory romp through 25 years of Serious Sam. Through a shattered universes narrative, different Sam’s from multiple dimensions can team up and blast through enemies new and old. Through the Roguelite twist, you’ll be able to stack up different boons to mix up the gameplay.

Like prior, perhaps more traditional Serious Sam games, you’ll have a vast arsenal of weapons to use to your heart’s content, and massive hordes of enemies as you’d expect given the series’ heritage. This will be mixed with new ideas, such as procedural shifted runs and unstable anomalies which shake up the gameplay.
While notably not being handled by the original Serious Sam developers at Croteam, the co-creator of Serious Sam has provided his blessing alongside the company as a whole.
He provided the following statement alongside the Shatterverse reveal: “Seeing Shatterverse come to life is a really big moment for us. It’s very exciting to see another talented team step in and create something bold, fresh, and different within the universe we cherished for so long. I can’t wait for both the old and new fans to experience this new interpretation of the series!”
Behavior Interactive has had itself a busy month, having only recently bought up 7 Days to Die in an out-of-nowhere deal. It’s crown jewel release – Dead by Daylight – retains its momentum with a number of exciting releases coming out later this year.
