13 years later, one of the rarest Platinum trophies ever on the PlayStation Vita has finally been earned

A player has achieved what many had thought impossible, earning one of the most legendary, most elusive Platinum trophies in the history of PlayStation consoles: Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2‘s Platinum trophy Master of the Secret Arts on the PlayStation Vita.

But why is this so difficult? Well, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2’s Platinum trophy requires players to complete 35 duo missions on Turbo Speed. However, the Vita version of the game does not support online play, forcing players to team up with a far-from-excellent computer-controller partner instead.

Add in the Turbo Speed and Vita’s 30fps cap, and this trophy was thought impossible to achieve on the platform. Enter Tqvry, a Japanese player who streamed the accomplishment live for nearly 10 hours over the weekend.

While cheaters have made a mess of trophy unlocking in the past, community run websites have fostered an accurate list of global trophy scores among PlayStation users. On PSN Profiles, Tqvry’s achievement can be seen for what it is: extraordinary. He is, according to the website’s leaderboard, the only person in the world to have done this legitimately. The Platinum trophy is described as “ultra rare”, with around 0.01 percent of players owning it.

Trophy hunting is a hardy hobby for players who wish to chase those incredibly difficult Platinums, but this one earns a permanent spot in the history of the venture. Whether someone else can join Tqvry at the pinnacle of obscure Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 stardom remains a mystery…
