At $500 total, that $20 discount might seem fairly modest, but the broader context of the gaming landscape makes this brand-new offer far more significant than it initially seems.

For starters, it’s immediately obvious that with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie currently dominating the box office, Nintendo is seemingly moving aggressively to convert cinematic hype into hardware installs (as you can see with the combined imagery used for the announcement).

Moreover, reports of Nintendo scaling back Switch 2 manufacturing following a softer-than-expected holiday season suggest the company is looking for a reliable nudge to move more consoles and re-energize the platform’s momentum after its successful launch in 2025.

This isn’t the first bundle offering Nintendo has dabbled with, either, with the proven playbook already utilized on Mario Kart World and Pokémon Legends Z-A bundles from last year.

But perhaps the most compelling argument for jumping on this deal isn’t the savings themselves, but the protection against future costs.

Sony’s recent decision to hike PlayStation 5 prices has sent shockwaves through the industry, rattling a lot of potential buyers and serving as a stark reminder that hardware prices just aren’t as reliable as they used to be.

Most recently, Nintendo even announced a new pricing model for Switch 2 games. They were quick to clarify that physical editions aren’t getting more expensive, just that the digital versions are getting cheaper.

But, I still wouldn’t be surprised if the constant changes makes you a bit nervous, especially when new releases like Elden Ring continue to wrack up an $80 price tag.

Par for the course, Nintendo has already upped prices for various OG Switch products in the U.S. since last year, and while it hasn’t officially announced a price increase for the Switch 2, we have been warned that price changes for the Switch 2, video games, and the Nintendo Switch Online membership may be coming down the line soon.

So while saving $20 on Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 isn’t massive on its own, the wider context makes it a bit more compelling. If you’re already considering a Switch 2, there’s a decent argument for getting in now rather than waiting around for a better deal that may never come, or worse, getting caught out by a price hike later.

The new Switch 2 and Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 bundle is available now, and can be purchased from retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and Target, as both physical and digitial editions for the included game.
