Bethesda acknowledges Starfield’s PS5 crashing issues, promises hotfix soon

Bethesda has responded to the various crashing issues many Starfield players on PlayStation 5 have been experiencing since the game made the jump to Sony’s console earlier this month.

As a reminder, Starfield was announced to be coming to PS5 after initially releasing on Xbox Series X/S and PC in 2023 (poet and didn’t know it). However, its PlayStation debut didn’t go all that smoothly, and fans soon complained about “totally unsurprising” crashes, among other issues. Some even asked for refunds.

Bethesda has now acknowledged there are indeed some teething issues with the PS5 version of Starfield, specifying those aforementioned crashes. “Thanks for sharing your adventures across the Settled Systems this weekend – we’ve loved reading them,” the team wrote on social media before stating:

“We’re aware of some reported PS5 crashing issues and have narrowed them down to a small number of causes. We’re addressing these in a hotfix we’re aiming to release this week. Thanks for flagging, and we’ll keep you posted.”

No further date was given for when we can expect that fix will go live, and Bethesda didn’t clarify exactly what has been causing the game’s crashes on PS5. However, it’s good to see that Bethesda has recognised there is an issue, and is working to rectify it. We will update you all with the hotfix details when we know more.

Last month, Bethesda doubled down on its plans to support Starfield “for years” to come. “We do have long-term plans,” Starfield exec Tim Lamb said during a Q&A attended by Eurogamer. While Bethesda doesn’t “have anything to announce right now”, Lamb assured that the team is “still actively working” on Starfield.

“There’s more lore and more ideas we want us to pursue,” Lamb closed.
