Resident Evil Requiem dataminer finds best clue yet that a Mercenaries mode could be on the way

A dataminer believes they’ve discovered unused music hidden in the backend of Resident Evil Requiem, suggesting it “could be related to [a] future extra mode or Mercenaries”.

Syrkov shared their findings on X/Twitter over the weekend, including instructions on how you too can find the mysterious music if you’re prepared to explore the game files.

“I was digging through Resident Evil Requiem files and found something that could be related to future extra mode / Mercenaries. Here’s some of the tracks I found,” they wrote, appending their findings (thanks, IGN).

Mercenaries, for the uninitiated, is the recurring blood-pumping arcade shooting minigame that accompanied the release of Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil 4, and Resident Evil 5. It usually involves you fighting to stay alive as you fight off hordes of zombies/Ganados, trying to amass as big a score as possible to show off on a global leaderboard.

While the first two tracks are not particularly out of place (the second sounds like the safe room music?), and third is ‘just’ a clicking clock/countdown(?!), the fourth sounds very much like it could come from a frantic Mercenaries stage, or even a boss fight. Interestingly, it continues the clicking sound from Track 3, suggesting you’re up against a time limit.

Tracks 7 and 9 similarly sound like they would be right at home in a Mercenaries level.

Could the “mini-game” we’re expected next month be a Mercenaries mode? Or does this music relate to the new story expansion that director Koshi Nakanishi said would “delve deeper into the world of Requiem” when it arrives? Hopefully we don’t have too much longer to wait.

Last month, the Resident Evil series celebrated its 30th anniversary. At this time, Resident Evil series executive producer Jun Takeuchi promised us all that “even more wonderful experiences” are coming.
