It wasn’t that long ago that Bandai Namco teased a new Dragon Ball video game project codenamed Age 1000. Little was known beyond the fact its setting was moving the franchise forward into a new future. Now we know it’s Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, which raises all sorts of new questions.
The full reveal came during 19th April’s Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026 event in Los Angeles, where Bandai Namco unveiled a long trailer which mixes traditional animation and in-engine cutscenes. The main hook, as also explained by Bandai Namco’s press release, is the focus on the Great Saiyan Squad, where “you’ll fight alongside allies as events there begin to take shape.” The main setting is West City, a vibrant and futuristic new location that’s part of the Age 1000 world. The publisher hasn’t explained in depth when this story is taking place, but it’s easy to guess we’re looking at a new original vision for the more distant future of the Dragon Ball world (and hopefully not one that’s besieged by Androids).
“The game combines an epic story-driven RPG experience that will take Dragon Ball fans on an unforgettable, action-packed journey into this new universe and its cast of characters,” the press release adds. It remains to be seen whether the iconic characters everyone knows and loves will be part of the story or playable roster one way or another, but the main pitch truly appears to be exploring the new setting with fresh characters. Given this is a Xenoverse game, though, I imagine there’ll be a very big cast of characters here from all corners of the expansive Dragon Ball franchise.
In any case, Bandai Namco is promising more news in the coming months, with a 2027 release window on PC (Steam), PS5, and Xbox Series X/S already set. The developer is veteran Dragon Ball studio Dimps, and the reveal of a new entry arrives almost a full decade after Xenoverse 2‘s release.
