Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, the popular Chinese Soulslike released in July 2025, has had its intellectual property rights fully acquired by Italian games publisher/developer Digital Bros for roughly €4m.
“Securing the IP will enhance the Group’s ability to make timely decisions regarding its future development and related investments” Digital Bros announced, indicating the game may have a future after all – something that was far from certain, given the fate of its developer.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers had a successful launch, according to industry analysis at the time, though in the following months developer Chengdu Lingzee was closed, reportedly due to the departure of key senior staff and the remaining team’s rejection of a pivot to becoming a support studio.
Now, in a press release published on the Digital Bros website, the terms of the agreement have been laid out for the public. Digital Bros will now earn all revenue generated from Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, and all future decisions will be made by Digital Bros when it comes to the game’s future.
The press release reads: “The Transaction secures full ownership of the IP for the Group, enabling full retention of the value generated throughout its lifecycle and eliminating any future royalty obligations to the developer. The total consideration amounts to RMB 32 million (approximately Euro 4 million), that will be funded through the Group’s available credit lines.”
This deal has also provided some insight into how well Wuchang: Fallen Feathers performed during its initial launch, as well as its continued popularity in the months following. According to the press release, the game was among Steam’s Top Sellers list at launch, reaching over 130,000 concurrent players. It sold more than 1m copies, generating €30m, which Digital Bros says: “[confirms] the strength of the product and its long-term potential.”
Digital Bros, the publisher partnered with Chengdu Lingze for the global release of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers through 505 Games, has continued to sweep up an interesting mix of properties over the years, including GhostRunner and GhostRunner 2, the Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons remake, and Indivisible.
So should fans of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers expect anything substantial soon? Probably not, as Digital Bros explained near the conclusion of the press release: “The Group does not expect the acquisition to have a significant impact on the business outlook for the current fiscal year previously disclosed to the market.”
Eurogamer reviewer Kaan Serin described Wuchang: Fallen Feathers as “Soulslike comfort food”, writing much of the games competency as a fun action game, but one that had “few true surprises”.
