Diablo 4’s Secret Cow Level Has Been Found

Diablo 4 fans have finally discovered the game’s secret cow level, though some fans are a bit underwhelmed by it.

If you’re not a Diablo fan, you may be thinking to yourself, “What the heck is the secret cow level?” The lore runs pretty deep here, but in short, players of the original Diablo game created a rumor about a secret level that featured demonic cows. While this was nothing more than a hoax, Blizzard found it amusing and eventually made it a reality. Subsequent Diablo installments included secret cow levels, which prompted players to complete elaborate Easter eggs to unlock dungeons that featured killer bovines. If players defeated them, they’d get a bunch of loot.

For years, players have been searching for Diablo 4’s secret cow level, and finally, players have discovered it. YouTuber LoatheBurger released a step-by-step tutorial on how to find the secret cow level, and as you might expect, the steps are quite elaborate. It turns out the cow level hasn’t been accessible from the jump. Players needed a clue that only became available with the release of Diablo 4’s latest expansion, Lord of Hatred. Once that became available, all the pieces fell in place back on the cow island and players were able to slay a bunch of cattle to open a portal to the secret level.

Once inside, players will be attacked by furious cows in addition to a boss known as the Cow King. If you manage to kill all of them, you’ll get a bunch of loot, including the Cow King’s crown. The crown has a bunch of comical cow-inspired perks, each of which corresponds to a day of the week. If you equip the crown on a Friday, you will get +10.26% “moobility” damage while “mooving”. Very cute, Blizzard.

Still, given how long this Easter egg took to complete and all of the steps involved, some players found the actual dungeon a bit underwhelming. “I’m a little disappointed after seeing the level. Given the amount of effort this took to reach (seriously, kudos) I did expect something a little more… idk, wacky? D3’s Whimsyshire was just such a stark contrast to the rest of the game,” said one fan on Reddit.

It does seem like if it were just going to be nothing more than a small area with killer cows, it could’ve been available at launch. It doesn’t seem like there was all that much reason to stretch this out over the course of three years if there wasn’t a more grand and whacky payoff. Either way, at least we can all rest easy knowing the demon cows have been defeated.
