Resident Evil Requiem has a new game mode, which is out now for free for all those who have made it through the main story and want to keep flexing their survival muscles.
It’s known as Leon Must Die Forever, and is as chill as you would imagine. Remember last month when Requiem’s director Koshi Nakanishi said we should all ‘sharpen our tomahawks’ in anticipation? Well, I can see why he said that now.
“Unlocked by completing the story, this additional minigame mode challenges you to clear numerous stages as Leon while unlocking exclusive enhancer abilities,” reads the official blurb for Leon Must Die Forever, with Capcom promising “fast-paced action” which is “distinct” from Resident Evil Requiem’s main story mode.
The studio added Leon Must Die Forever is “packed” with replay value. “Can you make it to the end alive and defeat the boss within the time limit?” the developer asks. Well, knowing my rather chaotic gameplay style, probably not, no.
But, if you are much more competent than me, and already think this all sounds like a walk in the park, Capcom has also added a super duper difficulty level, which it says is only for Requiem’s most confident players, so sorry Grace, I don’t think this one will be for you. As for what this all means, all Capcom has said is “True to the title, you’ll ‘die forever’…” Gulp.
You can check out the trailer for Resident Evil Requiem’s Leon Must Die Forever mode below. Also, is it just me that thinks this could be a reference to the now-classic Devil May Cry mode ‘Dante Must Die’? A nice little internal Capcom reference, maybe?
As well as this new game mode, Capcom has also fixed an issue which was causing Resident Evil Requiem to become unplayable under certain circumstances as part of this update.
If you haven’t given Resident Evil Requiem a go yet, I would thoroughly recommend it, but don’t just take my word for it. In Eurogamer’s Resident Evil Requiem review, our Matt also showered the game with praise, declaring it an “all-time high” for the long-running horror franchise.
Since its release, Requiem has been a huge success for Capcom, earning itself the title as the fastest-selling game in the Resident Evil series to date. More content in the form of a new story expansion, which will “delve deeper into the world of Requiem”, is also on the cards, though we don’t have a release date yet.
