Amazon may not have officially announced a second season of its Tomb Raider TV series, but Lara Croft actress Sophie Turner already sounds confident there will be one.
Turner recently spoke about her career, which truly kicked off when she landed a lead role in Game of Thrones at just 13 years old. Her experience on this set, she said, laid some good groundwork for Tomb Raider.
“Right now, my focus is Tomb Raider,” Turner told The Telegraph, and it has been for quite some time now. Turner began training for her role as Lara Croft back in February of 2025, working out for eight hours a day, five days a week.
According to The Telegraph, the first season of Tomb Raider is expected to release later this year, though it sounds like a second season is already on the cards. Turner stated her focus will remain on Tomb Raider “for a while to come”, suggesting she is far from finished with the role. As for what we can expect from the show and Turner’s take on Lara Croft, the actress didn’t give a huge amount away, but did say there is an element to her take on the globe-trotting heroine that “can be fairly toxic”.
“But there is also an element of her that is so focused and determined, whereas I have ADHD [attention deficit hyperactivity disorder] and can’t complete a task without forgetting about it and doing something else,” Turner said. “I am a total worrier and neurotic which she obviously isn’t, but we’re both obsessed with history.”
Filming for Amazon’s Tomb Raider series – which along with Turner also stars Celia Imrie, Jason Isaacs, Sigourney Weaver and Martin Bobb-Semple – initially began in January. The following month, we got our first look at Turner on set as Lara, as she parachuted into a soggy woodland with two pistols strapped to her thighs. We’ve since seen the actress on the back of a motorcycle, accompanied by Bobb-Semple’s Zip. Additionally, former Lara Croft actress Keeley Hawes was also spotted on set in London earlier this year, with many suspecting she will play Lara’s mother Amelia on the show’s release.
As for the games, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is set to release later this year. A remake of the original Tomb Raider game, Legacy of Atlantis places players back in the shoes of Lara Croft as she hops from country to country in search of the Scion of Atlantis.
Next year will then see the release of an all new Tomb Raider story, in the form of Tomb Raider Catalyst. This game will take Lara to Northern India, following a “mythical cataclysm that has unleashed ancient secrets and awakened the mysterious forces that guard them”.
