Magic: The Gathering’s current set, Secrets of Strixhaven, is a banger, but while you can still grab many of the products on offer, one is proving as elusive as the Collector Boosters.
The Codex Bundle is unique to this set, and it’s actually pretty great — but it’s selling out fast. In fact, it arrived on Amazon today, and by the time I’d started writing this article, it was gone.
Why is the Codex Bundle So Popular?
As of the time of writing, the Secrets of Strixhaven Codex Bundle is going for around $150 on the secondary market, but it’s supposed to cost $89.99. That’s come down since we covered it before, when it was over $200, but it’s still a steep markup (and pretty gross).
Why’s it being scalped and selling so fast? According to Wizards, each Collector Booster should cost you $26.99, while Play Boosters are $5.49. Because you’re getting two of the former and six of the latter, you’re getting $86.92 of value for the MSRP of $89.99.
Those two Collector Boosters are where much of the value resides, but you also get a pair of borderless promo cards, including Commander staples like Sol Ring, and the Talismans of Resilience, Hierarchy, Conviction, Creativity, and Curiosity, with exclusive art designs.
Then there’s 20 foil lands, an exclusive spindown, and a slick storage box for the whole lot that arguably make it worth its MSRP.
Where Can You Buy A Codex Bundle?
Amazon is getting more stock in, but it’s going almost as swiftly as it arrives, while the secondary market will have you paying almost double the MSRP.
You can, however, grab the Codex Bundle for $94.99. That’s a little steeper, but it’s much better than $150. That price comes from Best Buy, so if you’re interested right now, that might be your best bet.
