It looks like that superb Final Fantasy 7 Revelation trailer at Summer Game Fest was just the ticket for Square Enix: between a blowout trailer showcasing a massive open world, some significant story beats, and refined combat, and a massive media tour following the reveal, interest in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series appears to have gone through the roof.
Over the past weekend, both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth were given pretty significant discounts over on Steam as part of the platform’s Final Fantasy franchise sale. Remake dropped down to a very modest £12.24, whilst Rebirth is £15.99. This turned out to be a pretty canny move by publisher Square Enix, as Remake alone saw well over 10,000 concurrent players on Steam alone over the past two days. Rebirth’s numbers were more modest, clocking up a maximum of 6,751 players – but still, these aren’t bad numbers for a pair of games launched to Steam in 2022 and 2025, respectively.
Of course, Steam numbers are only a fraction of the available picture, but seeing fans go back to these games is a surefire indicator that the marketing machine for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is working. The final part of the trilogy, the game promises to wrap up the updated and revised tale of Cloud and his pals as they endevour to stop Sephiroth from his infernal machinations. It’s worth noting that Remake and Rebirth have also seen recent releases on Switch 2 and Xbox, where there are no doubt many more players engaging with the franchise.

Prior to this month’s information dump – most of which happened during June’s Summer Games Fest showcase, we’d managed to glean a few hints about what to expect from the game. We knew, for instance, that all-round nice-but-irritating lab assistant Chadley, would return in Part 3, perhaps as a way to streamline mini-games for Square Enix’s third entry in the revisited FF7 universe. We also knew that Naoki Hamaguchi has already completed “over 40 full playthroughs” of the game that the title will not “compromise on graphics whatsoever” despite move to multiplatform release.
The game is set to launch in 2027.
