Mark Hamill has joined the cast of Peacock and Sony Pictures Television’s Twisted Metal adaptation. The actor will have a recurring role in the show’s third season.
Hamill – known for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars series, and his extensive voice acting work, including his acclaimed take on Batman’s Joker in numerous animations and games – will play Pope Charlie Kane in season three of Twisted Metal. Please be aware of potential show spoilers below.
Those who have played the games will know Charlie Kane is the father of Sweet Tooth, Twisted Metal’s clown-themed killer with a flaming head. While Sweet Tooth, aka Needles Kane, drives an ice cream truck, Charlie Kane is the driver of Yellow Jacket, which is often depicted as a taxi-like vehicle.
As reported by Deadline, the TV series’ version of Charlie Kane will be the leader (or pope) of a faction known as The Eastern Sovereignty. “For Mark Hamill to come into this world with us is amazing,” said Anthony Mackie, who plays the show’s protagonist John Doe and serves as an executive producer. “He’s someone I’ve admired for a long time – a true legend who’s influenced generations of actors. Being able to now call him a castmate is an incredible honour, and we’re excited to see what he brings to the world of Twisted Metal.”
In addition to Mackie, Twisted Metal’s main cast includes Joe Seanoa as Sweet Tooth (although the character is voiced by Will Arnett), Stephanie Beatriz as Quiet, and Anthony Carrigan as Calypso. The show was renewed for a third season in November, after its second season registered 993m minutes viewed on Peacock. At the time of its renewal, Peacock said the show had become its “second highest-reaching original returning scripted season”.
The first season of Twisted Metal was nominated for Best Adaptation at the 2023 Game Awards, but the accolade ended up going to HBO’s The Last of Us TV series.
