Sony wants you to know GTA 6 “will play best on PS5”, and here’s why

Sony has released a blog post detailing the PlayStation 5 features that will work with Grand Theft Auto 6, and it’s claimed the game will “play best” on PS5.

“Thanks to the close partnership between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto VI will play best on PS5 by taking advantage of PS5’s immersive features to deliver a deeply engaging single-player experience when it launches on November 19,” the post reads.

The Dualsense wireless controllers will be “reacting to your actions”, apparently, with haptic feedback vibrations and adaptive triggers providing “dynamic resistance”. The post also highlights the controller’s integrated speaker which adds “another dimension to key moments and interactions”. The PS5’s SSD offers “near-instant load times” as well, apparently.

But there’s no actual declaration that GTA 6 runs better on PS5 from a performance point of view. Instead, this seems to be a gambit to convince waves of gamers that the PS5 is the best choice for GTA 6 release – a game that is sure to push a staggering number of people towards the medium. Sony is clearly hoping GTA 6 will be a hardware seller as well as a software seller.

It’s interesting there’s no mention of the PS5 Pro. All the technical pros mentioned are present on the base PS5, and all the GTA 6 gameplay we’ve seen so far has been captured on a base PS5. too. It’s a strange omission; we can only assume GTA 6 will be enhanced on PS5 Pro but we’ve contacted Sony for clarification.

So, will the PS5 be the most prominent platform for GTA 6? Sony is in a fortunate position in terms of the console market. The Xbox is struggling immensely at the moment, having suffered from poor hardware sales and finding itself in the midst of reported cuts across many of its studios. There’s currently no sign of a Nintendo Switch 2 either, despite it selling strongly and Take-Two’s CEO saying they want to support the platform in the future.

That leaves the PC! A dominant platform for gaming, and there’s no doubt that Grand Theft Auto 6 will prove popular there, if and when it’s made available. For Sony, who is pulling away from PC, judging by its annual business report, it’s clear it’s becoming less focused on that platform. So, with that in mind, it’s not a huge surprise Sony is pushing to garner the attention of GTA 6 players looking for the best console to play it on.
