The first wave of Steam Machines has arrived at long last, but those without are left watching the waitlist

The first wave of Steam Machines have arrived in the hands of eager early adopters. But while some are celebrating their new toy, others are left to stare at the waiting list.

A flurry of celebratory pictures can be found on the Steam Machine Subreddit, which has become a hub for moments of post-console-unboxing revelry.

Here’s the Steam Machine overview guide form Valve.Watch on YouTube

Judging by this digital hub, Steam Machine started arriving Tuesday evening in Asia and a few other regions. In the days following, posts from Steam Machine buyers confirmed shipping confirmations were being received all around the world. There are now Steam Machines in the UK, Australia, the Netherlands, and more.

Once these confirmed orders actually arrived, the initial impressions began. One user – Lombers – described it as “so much smaller than I expected”, capturing it with a banana resting atop the Steam Machine for comparison’s sake.

Another early bird – Flubbachany – described the console as “whisper quiet” while playing games, and positioned it next to a fan on their table to, once again, compare the size. A lot of the Steam Machine Subreddit seems to be strangers online comparing the size of their hardware.

But for every happy owner of a new Steam Machine there are many others without. Some are anxious awaiting confirmation of their order, whereas others are a touch frustrated that the Steam Machine sold out as fast as it did. It seems the common practice for Steam Machine hopefuls is to continuously refresh their emails in hopes of seeing that blessed order confirmation come through, though given limited supply, when that will be is up in the air.

One person did lighten the mood somewhat. CrazyDave48 created a post titled ‘Help! My Steam Machine arrived but it’s completely bricked!’, only to reveal they had created a 1:1 copy of the Steam Machine out of, you guessed it, Lego bricks. Nice one Dave.

Your average Joe Steam fan isn’t the only one out there with Steam Machines of course! Former PlayStation higher-up Shuhei Yoshida recently shared his own thoughts on the Steam Machine. We too have one, or rather, our editor-in-chief does. The rest of us are either in the latter group of Steam Machine hopefuls or otherwise uninterested.
