Battlefield 6 is bringing back a feature we’ve not seen since Battlefield 2, and teasing a fitting Top Gun collab alongside it

Battlefield Studios has released our first look at Season 4 in Battlefield 6. This new trailer arrives a week ahead of Season 4’s launch on 21st July, and shows plenty to be excited about.

We’ve known for weeks that Season 4 is introducing naval warfare to the game, though now we’ve had a glimpse of what this looks like. There are two new water vehicles coming: the RCB-90 Patrol Boat – essentially the equivalent of a tank – and the 7.7m NSW RHIB light transport boat.

Much of the footage takes place in the Tsuru Reef map, which arrives with Season 4, and will be the largest map in the game. Tsuru Reef will then be followed by Wake Island in the season’s second phase.

Season 4 will expand the available arsenal with four new weapons, including the Interdictor sniper rifle, but perhaps the biggest reveal in the trailer is the return of two-seater jets. The last game to feature two-seat, fixed-wing jets was Battlefield 2, and we’ve – somewhat surprisingly – not seen the feature since.

The two jets shown are the F/A-18 Super Hornet, and the F-14 Tomcat. In one of the best shots in the trailer, we see the Tomcat fold its wings as its afterburner kicks in and the aircraft speeds up. The addition of two-seater jets could shake up the vehicle meta considerably, as an accompanying gunner would allow jets to do more than just hunt other air vehicles.

Fitting then, that Battlefield 6 is also teasing a Top Gun cross-over. We’re not sure what that could entail just yet, beyond the obvious addition of the Tomcat, which is strongly associated with the films. Hopefully there will be more there aside from the usual assortment of skins typical of these collaborations.

Battlefield Studios will share more details, and a roadmap for Season 4, at some point this week.
