Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands appears to be getting a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Definitive Edition, but is it a remaster or a bog standard re-release?

If you’ve been itching to replay Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands, for some reason, you may soon have a reason to. The open-world co-op shooter will be 10 years old next March and it looks like Ubisoft is celebrating the anniversary early.

A person on the Wildlands subreddit shared a screenshot of an advert for a Definitive Edition of the game, which they say appeared on Wildlands’ Xbox Game Hub. While it doesn’t offer a release date, the advert did reveal the edition includes a new mission and support for 4K resolution and 60fps.

The upcoming release seemingly also includes all previously-released add-ons across its two yearly season passes. So although Wildlands is playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S already, a native release is likely what will allow it to run at higher resolutions and framerates.

According to an Insider Gaming report, Wildlands is one of several legacy titles with similar upgrades currently in development, with the next game apparently being Watch Dogs: Legion.

The Xbox Game Hub leak said the offer – potentially a discounted price – expires 7th August, which is a notable date because Ubisoft announced that it’s going to share more Ghost Recon news on 6th August to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the series.

“It’s been a while Ghosts!” the official Ghost Recon X account shared. “We know some of you saw some updates, we’ll have more to say on 6th August when we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Ghost Recon. Intel coming soon.”

This leak does bring to mind The Division’s own Definitive Edition, which went on sale in February. Like Wildlands, that release also leaked ahead of time, except it immediately became available for purchase. Unfortunately, it quickly turned out it was neither a remake nor a remaster, but simply a bundle that included the base game and all DLC, alongside some cosmetics.

But why not revisit the more recent Ghost Recon game Breakpoint? Wildlands was fairly well received, whereas Breakpoint was poorly received at launch, and Ubisoft spent the next several months overhauling practically the entire game, chiefly to heavily deemphasise the loot and gear elements in it. Perhaps that game simply needs more work; perhaps Ubisoft would rather forget it.
