A new fighting game has been announced! Making use of the rich DC universe, this upcoming release brings free-to-play 2v2 brawling to mobile. Its name? Um, DCKO.
DCKO – or Dicko as it’s being lovingly called online – is made by indie developer Dropfake and is an officially licensed DC game. The game launches next year, though you can pre-register now to learn about betas whenever they arrive.
The announcement trailer shows a variety of different DC characters hitting each other, though we don’t have unedited gameplay footage to see how this fighting game will actually play. Its roster looks faithful to the source material, to me, and it has some cool looking comic book stylisation here and there. Aside from that, the game is largely a mystery.
To address the elephant in the room – the name DCKO – appears to be a copy of Riot Games’ naming convention for its 2v2 tag fighter 2XKO. It’s also incredibly easy to call it something far ruder, as was proven immediately after its reveal on social media.
“They called it DICKO,” wrote influencer Coney on X, to which the official DCKO account responded: “And we own that BIG DCKO ENERGY!” This, at the very least, shows an ability to play along with the fun, which must be commended. Others have pushed this gag further, with Orange Sprite on X writing: “‘Yo I’m on that Dicko, you trynna hop on?’ Even 2XKO’s editor in chief Ben Forbes joined in on the fun, writing: “Im about to go DCKO mode”.
As for how people actually feel about the game, there is some negativity stemming from fighting game fans wanting a new DC fighter on PC and console. Some people were hopeful that the next DC fighting game they’d see would be Injustice 3 from NetherRealm, which set a bar that DCKO seems to have struggled to rise to.
Still, there has also been a decent amount of excitement. Multi-time fighting game champion Sonicfox said that they felt it looked “lowkey so fire”, while legacy fighting game personality Justin Wong said they’d “definitely [be] playing this”.
So perhaps there’s hope. It’s no secret that the mobile gaming sector is growing, with data analytics company Sensor Tower’s 2025 mobile industry report finding that revenue was up 4 percent, time spent is up 7.9 percent, and sessions are up 12 percent compared to 2024. DCKO may not be coming to consoles, but it could reach far wider than other fighting games, given the current cost of grabbing a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S.
