As hype builds for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, Remake and Rebirth continue to sell well

Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth have been selling “several times better” than expected in the wake of Revelation’s Summer Game Fest 2026 reveal.

That’s according to trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi, who told Automaton that both games are “performing even better than most people probably imagine”.

“Back when Rebirth was announced, every time it became a hot topic, sales of Remake would rise,” Hamaguchi said.

“Similarly, I’m sure every time Revelation attracts attention, more people will become interested in Rebirth.”

He wasn’t able to share specific figures, citing Square Enix‘s investor relations policy, but said: “I can say they’re performing even better than most people probably imagine”.

Hamaguchi also pointed to PC as a growing factor behind the trilogy’s performance.

“The English-speaking market remains very strong on PC, but the Simplified Chinese PC market has also grown to a comparable level,” he said.

In the same interview, the director credited player feedback with shaping some of Revelation’s design changes, saying minigames are being made skippable and rewards adjusted based on community responses to Rebirth.

“When it comes to gameplay and game design, especially playability, I believe we absolutely have to keep listening to players and minimize points of frustration wherever we can,” he said. He also addressed the games’ famously vocal fanbase: “When people discuss and get heated about the minigames, the story, or the relationships between characters in FFVII, I think that only happens because they see value in those elements.”

Perhaps most notably, Hamaguchi said more than 90 percent of the staff who worked on Remake have stayed with the project through to Revelation – something he said surprised people overseas.

“I think the fact that so many people are working on this project with a firm commitment to seeing it through to the very end is certainly due in part to the strength of the FFVII IP, but also because we were able to create this project surrounded by fans who have tremendously high expectations for it,” he said.

The third and final part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, is set to arrive in spring 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Though a full year before Sony phases out physical discs, publisher Square Enix has apparently not made a decision whether to ship the game on disc or not.
