Acclaimed photography puzzler sequel Toem 2 gets a release date

Toem 2 will release on Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, PC, and PS5 on 29th September, 2026.

Details about Something We Made’s acclaimed photography puzzler sequel are limited, but it looks like players can expect more quirky characters and chill beats as Toem’s photographer protagonist sets off on a brand-new adventure about “uncovering hidden details, helping friends along the way, and documenting the world’s little wonders”.

You can check out the latest teaser in the (sadly very brief) video embedded below:

The most obvious change this time is its art; the original’s stylised blend of 2D elements and simple polygons has had a bit of a glow-up, retaining its black-and-white looks while embracing far more detailed 3D.

Our lovely Donlan gave the original Toem a Eurogamer Essential badge when he reviewed it back in 2022, saying “Toem is an absolute dream”.

“I love Toem. And I should warn you up front Toem has absolutely zero to do with T.S. Eliot. It’s profound, in fact, due to its brave and lovable absence of anything that is remotely profound in and of itself. Toem!” he wrote.

“In a grayscale newsprint world you go on a short journey with a camera, travelling from one bus stop to the next. The pictures you take might solve conundrums for the characters you meet at each stop, and each conundrum solved gives you a stamp that allows you to steadily earn a ticket to the next stop. You travel, meet people, help them out, get a sense of each place and, crucially, move on at the end. And the lasting evidence you’ve done any of this lies with the roll of photos you’ve taken along the way.”

It went on to win Best Debut at the 18th British Academy Games Awards.
