New Super Smash Bros and Nintendogs games are on the way, according to prominent Nintendo leaker

A prominent Nintendo leaker has spilled even more information about the console maker’s potential plans, which include the long-awaited return of Nintendogs and an all-new Super Smash Bros. game (not a buffed up version of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, apparently.)

The scoop comes from the ever-enigmatic Malo932, who first leaked that the company was preparing two back-to-back Nintendo Directs well before the Big N had the chance to tell us itself. They were also the first to claim that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, a new Star Fox and a Switch Sports game would come out this year, weeks before they were all properly revealed to the world.

News of another Super Smash Bros. game isn’t super surprising – 2018’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the genre’s best-selling game ever, and one of the original Switch console’s defining hits. Series director Masahiro Sakurai has also been pretty quiet ever since wrapping up work on Kirby Air Riders last year.

According to the leaker, the incoming Super Smash Bros. project isn’t an expanded re-release of Ultimate, so don’t expect a simple Switch 2 Edition of the mammoth brawler. (Good spot, VGC.)

In a now-deleted YouTube comment that was quickly shared by eagle-eyed fans (I managed to catch a peek at it over the weekend), the leaker also teased that another “cozy weird Nintendo series is coming back, barking. Wink wink, woof woof.”

Nintendo’s fluffy dog management sim hasn’t enjoyed a new game since 2011’s Nintendogs and Cats for the 3DS, but its return is past due. Not only did the original game sell upwards of 20m copies- that’s a lot of neglected digital doggos – Nintendo seems quite keen on bringing back some of its weirder handheld franchises as of late, if Rhythm Paradise Groove and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream are any indication.

Elsewhere across the internet, Malo932 mentioned that Mario Kart World‘s DLC will somehow feature Fox McCloud and come out next year. Another 2D Metroid game, a new Wario Land, a Star Fox “adventure” and whatever shape the next 3D Mario takes will supposedly launch in 2027, as well.
