Last Chance to Save $10 on a Physical Copy

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave comes out tomorrow for Nintendo Switch 2. That means today is your last chance to save $10 off physical copies of the game at Amazon and Walmart. In case you’re wondering if the game is any good, you can hop over to our 10/10 review to see what our critic thought of it. But for real, if you want a physical copy, grab one today, because it goes back up to $79.99 tomorrow.

Digital copies are $69.99 on the Nintendo eShop, and will be for the foreseeable future. But earlier this year, Nintendo started charging $10 more for physical games versus digital, presumably because physical cartridges and printing and shipping cost more than serving up downloads of data.

In response to this pricing change, both Amazon and Walmart have gone rogue among retailers and begun offering $10 off preorders of physical copies, bringing the pricing in line with digital copies. But once the game comes out, the price goes back up to MSRP – $79.99, in this case.

Generally, preordering can be a risky move because you don’t always know if a game is worth buying before reviews hit, or it comes out and gets a popular consensus. But right now, we’re in a beautiful window of time when reviews are live and the game is still discounted on Amazon and Walmart. But, again, today is the last day.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is the latest in a long line of tactical RPGs that provide anime-inspired art and stories, turn-based strategy gameplay, and deep character interactions. People love these games, and for good reason — they’re usually terrific.

Looks like this one is no different. Here’s how IGN critic Brendan Graeber summed it up in the review:

“Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave builds upon its strategic arts in ways I couldn’t have anticipated. It’s never satisfied to make me grow only as a battlefield tactician, or only in my ability to manage my time between skirmishes wisely, but both in perfect harmony. Every time I turned around, I was being given more challenges to face and more tools to master in order to overcome them. The many unique twists of each hero’s story path had me eager to see all the ways those journeys differed from each other, making the grand culmination in the final act hit so damn well. Planning out my expeditions across an imposing map became an unexpected highlight that not only hooked me, but rewarded my persistence by continuing to expand all the ways I could direct my armies as I tried to stay on top of newly emerging threats. The scope of both its formidably challenging battles and intricate management systems would be wildly ambitious for one path, let alone spread across four – yet somehow Fortune’s Weave only gets better and better each time you guide its captivating heroes into the colosseum and far beyond.”

Sounds pretty, pretty, pretty good.
