Mario Paint finally comes to Nintendo Switch Online, and it makes great use of an underused Switch 2 feature

Nintendo Switch Online members can now get their very artistically capable hands on Mario Paint.

Mario Paint originally released all the way back in 1992 on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or SNES. It uses mouse controls to draw pictures. “You can even create animated sequences and write music to add to your collage,” reads Mario Paint’s official blurb. “Bring your very own video creations to life by combining animation and music with the art you’ve made!”

Mario Paint is available on both the original Switch and the recently released Switch 2. While Switch 2 users will of course be able to utilise the console’s mouse functionality, those on Nintendo’s original console will need to get hold of a compatible USB mouse.

In addition, Nintendo has added the music from Mario Paint to the Nintendo Music App. You can check out a trailer for Mario Paint below.

Mario Paint joins the likes of Donkey Kong Country, Earthworm Jim 2 and Star Fox, which are all available to play via Nintendo Switch Online’s SNES catalogue of classic games.

As spotted by Wario64, Mario’s Super Picross also now supports mouse controls on the Switch’s SNES app, as well as Nobunaga’s Ambition.

You can check out the full run down of everything available on Nintendo’s subscription service via our handy guide detailing all the Nintendo Switch Online games available to play right now.

As for Nintendo more generally, earlier this month the company gave us a look at its Lego Game Boy model, which it showed off with an 80s-infused trailer laced with nostalgia. If this sounds like your thing, the Lego Game Boy is available for pre-order in the UK right now.

Meanwhile, that newly-released Switch 2 recently became the fastest selling video game hardware device in US history, usurping the PlayStation 4.
