It And Annabelle Writer-Producer Secures Screen Rights For The Medium: ‘Anything Bloober Develops Is Going To Push Horror Forward In Unique And Terrifying Ways’

It and Annabelle writer-producer Gary Dauberman is set to bring Bloober Team’s The Medium to the big screen.

As reported by Hollywood Reporter, Dauberman has secured the screen rights to Bloober’s tense horror. A writer and director have yet to be announced.

“With its compelling story and incredibly cinematic visuals, The Medium is a natural for a feature film adaptation,” Dauberman said in a statement.

“When I talked to [CEO] Piotr [Babieno] about it, we immediately connected on our mutual love of horror and his vision for where the genre is headed. I have no doubt anything Bloober develops is going to push horror forward in unique and terrifying ways, and I’m excited to be working alongside them.”

Babieno added: “Adapting games into films often involves balancing many interests, but with The Medium, I have a deep sense that Gary is the perfect partner for us. From our very first conversation, I felt we were completely in sync. And every conversation since has only reinforced that feeling.”

The Medium is a tension-fueled, psychological horror game built around a central motif: how your perspective changes your perception. IGN gave The Medium 8/10, writing: “Brilliantly paced and palpably tense, The Medium is a psychological horror adventure that’s all thriller and no filler.”

Bloober Team has admitted it knew it had to “evolve” after releasing The Medium, a decision which led to the development of bigger games such as the Silent Hill 2 remake and the upcoming Cronos: The New Dawn.

Cronos director and producer Jacek Zieba previously IGN that The Medium became a turning point for the studio as it looked to make bigger and better games. “I think after The Medium it was very clear to us that we needed to evolve,” Zieba said. “It was like, ‘let’s end the chapter of the adventure games.’ Layers of Fear, Observer, and The Medium, [games that were] strange, experimental, with fixed camera tools. ‘Okay, let’s finish with that.'”

If you’re having trouble keeping up — and we wouldn’t blame you; in the last few weeks alone, we’ve learned another Friday the 13th game, this one a prequel, and a movie based on Kinetic Games’ terrifying ghost investigation game, Phasmophobia, is on the way — here’s our full list of video game movies set to release in 2025 or beyond.
