Nintendo announces Switch price changes in US, citing “market conditions”

Nintendo is changing the price of its original Switch console – including its OLED and Lite models, as well as “select” accessories – in the US later this week.

Price changes will come into effect on 3rd August, the company announced today, citing “market conditions”.

It added other Nintendo products, including “certain Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, select amiibo, and the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo”, will also see adjustments at this time, though pricing for the Switch 2 system itself as well as physical and digital Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 games will not be affected at this time. Nintendo Switch Online membership prices will also remain the same for now.

Nintendo did state, however, that further pricing adjustments “may be necessary” in the future. At the time of writing, the company has not said how much the pricing will change by. The original Switch currently retails for $299.99 in the US, while the Switch Lite is priced at $199.99, and the Switch OLED costs $349.99.

Today’s announcement in the US follows a pricing increase in Canada, which was announced earlier this week and goes into effect today. Here, the original Switch price point increased by $20 CAD.

Last month, it was revealed the newly-released Switch 2 had become the fastest selling video game hardware device in US history, usurping the PlayStation 4. These figures came despite the tariff situation in the US around the Switch 2’s launch. As a reminder, Nintendo delayed pre-orders in the US back in April. It additionally raised the cost of Switch 2 accessories in the US due to tariffs. Meanwhile, some US retailers were reportedly cancelling pre-orders ahead of the console’s launch.

Earlier today, Nintendo announced it had sold 5.82m Switch 2 consoles worldwide in its first month of release.
