Battlefield 6 maps are smaller compared to the rest of the series, community discovers

A member of the Battlefield community has made a visual and graphical comparison of Battlefield 6‘s maps with the rest of the series, showing the latest release’s maps are smaller than prior entries.

User ClaraTheRed posted their findings on the Battlefield Reddit, which included a size map of all 87 maps across the games, as well a graphical breakdown of both total and playable area across those maps. In doing so, it’s been made clear that the vast majority of maps fall on the smaller side of the graph.

Operation Firestorm – currently the largest map in the game and itself a port from Battlefield 3 – is ranked 32nd overall across the series in terms of playable space. The original Operation Firestorm from Battlefield 3 is far larger, ranking 7th. Though this is largely down to the perimeter of the map being brought in rather than any shrinkage that would impact the gameplay too much.

In terms of original maps, Mirak Valley is the largest among Battlefield 6’s arsenal, ranking 35th. The rest are sprinkled throughout the rankings, with the smallest Battlefield 6 map Saints Quarter standing proud as the 2nd smallest map in the series history.

It is worth noting that a handful of those larger maps are DLC maps, and the comparison between BF6 and previous games does place finished games against a relatively new one with years left of post-launch support left to go. Many of the Battlefield 3: Armoured Kill DLC maps rank among the highest, which skew the chart somewhat due to their bolder vehicle-focused scope.

So why do people care about this? Well, there’s a community sentiment brewing around the size of Battlefield 6’s maps and how the game hasn’t felt as big as previous titles. While these graphs do lend some credence to the idea, further discussion in the thread noted that shape and structure of the maps tend to make them feel smaller. For example, Siege of Cairo’s many alleyways and corridors feel quite compact.

It’s an interesting debate! Let us know how you feel about the map sizes below! If you’ve not had a chance to check out the game yourself, why not read Eurogamer’s review to get a glimpse of what’s in store. Right now, players are diving into the new Redsec Battle Royale mode, and coming away with mixed thoughts.
