Jason Isaacs has been cast in the live-action Tomb Raider series from Amazon and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
As reported by Deadline, Isaacs will star alongside Sophie Turner’s Lara Croft when the series airs on Prime. At the time of writing, it is not clear who he will play on Tomb Raider’s release.
Isaacs’ previous roles include White Lotus (where we got to see rather a lot of the actor’s, ahem, impressive talents), Elektra, Black Hawk Down, The Death of Stalin and many, many more.
Other confirmed Tomb Raider cast members include British actor Martin Bobb-Semple in an undisclosed “major” role, and acclaimed actress Sigourney Weaver, known for the likes of Avatar and Alien. Weaver will play a character called Wallace on the show’s release, and earlier this month stated the Tomb Raider scripts are “incredible, and very funny, very charming, very witty”.
Waller-Bridge – who along with Fleabag is also known for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Killing Eve and Crashing – will serve as the Tomb Raider series’ creator, writer, executive producer and co-showrunner. Jonathan Van Tulleken, meanwhile, will be director and executive producer, along with Chad Hodge as co-showrunner and executive producer.
Filming is expected to kick off early next year, on 19th January.
As well as Amazon’s show, the game side of the business is currently collaborating with Crystal Dynamics on an all-new Tomb Raider game known as Catalyst. Revealed at The Game Awards last week, Tomb Raider: Catalyst sends Lara to Northern India, and takes place some time after series entry Underworld.
Alix Wilton Regan will portray Lara in both Catalyst and next year’s Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which is a remake of the first game.
