It’s been about seven years since we last had a meaningful udpate in the Dead or Alive franchise, but that all changed this evening when Koei Tecmo made an unexpected appearance at the PlayStation State of Play to give us some new about the beloved fighting series.
During the show, series producer Yosuke Hayashi announced that not only would Dead or Alive 6 get a ‘Last Round’ update (read: a remaster of the game that is coming to PS5), but also a brand new game in the series. I will assume this is Dead or Alive 7, but you never know: it could be a soft reboot with a brand new moniker.
Per the blurb for the Dead or Alive 6 Last Round trailer, this is “the definitive version of Dead or Alive 6,” with loads of new features including It not only brings the game to PlayStation 5, but it also adds DLC characters to the main roster and teases further playable fighters (and costumes, of course) in future updates. A free-to-play version of the game will be available at launch, but details on how that will work – and differ from the paid version – have not been shared.
After this, a brief teaser trailer was shown, teasing “the dawn of a new chapter awaits. In development for PlayStation 5.” We expect to hear more about this is due course.
