Max Parker has joined the cast of Amazon’s upcoming God of War series.
Parker – who is best known around these parts as Luke Posner in UK soap opera Emmerdale – will play the Watchman of Asgard, Heimdall, on God of War’s release. Up North? More like up Norse!
Heimdall was an antagonist introduced in Sony Santa Monica’s God of War Ragnarök. The son of Odin, he keeps watch atop the walls of Asgard while using his powers of foresight to ward off enemies.
“Heimdall is a god in his own right with the special ability to anticipate what’s about to happen at any moment,” Deadline reports of Parker’s casting. “Handsome and dynamic, he feels unappreciated by his father and underestimated by the rest of the family, and as a result is constantly looking for ways to improve his position in the hierarchy and increase his stature and power.”
As well as Emmerdale, Parker’s other credits to date include as Mikhail Tanner in fantasy horror series Vampire Academy and as Sergeant Sullivan in Netflix’s military comedy drama Boots (see below). He has also popped up in Doctor Who as a guest star.
Parker joins Ryan Hurst (who played Thor in God of War Ragnarök) as Kratos and Teresa Palmer as Thor’s wife Sif in the upcoming show, which is a collaboration between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios.
Behind the camera, Amazon’s God of War adaptation includes former Battlestar Galactica executive producer Ronald D. Moore, who will serve as showrunner on the upcoming series, and Emmy winning Shōgun director Frederick E.O. Toye.
“God of War follows father and son Kratos and Atreus as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human,” reads the show’s official logline.
We still don’t have a release window for the first season, however a second season of God of War has already been greenlit at Amazon.
