As part of the Nintendo Classics catalogue for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers (with the Expansion Pack), Luigi’s Mansion will be available from 30th October for Switch 2.
The game’s inclusion has been expected, as it was one of the games listed as coming to the service in its initial announcement. It follows F-Zero GX, Soul Calibur 2, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker that launched with the console, as well as Mario Smash Football (Super Mario Strikers) and Chibi-Robo that have arrived since.
That means we’re still waiting on Super Mario Sunshine, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, and Pokémon Colosseum.
Luigi’s Mansion was seen as a controversial launch game for the GameCube, which was the first Nintendo console not to launch with a Mario game. And at just a few hours long, it was considered particularly short.
However, it is a wonderful game of hoovering up ghosts and solving puzzles, featuring some charming animation.
Two sequels have since followed on DS and Switch (plus a Switch remake of the DS game), with Luigi’s Mansion 3 in particular being one of the Switch’s best games. Could a Luigi’s Mansion 4 be in the works for Switch 2? I sure hope so.
Music from Luigi’s Mansion will also be added to the Nintendo Music app.
