League of Legends Pro Gamer Faker in the New K-Pop Stray Kids Video

If you’re responsible for any of the 40 million views of music video for the new K-Pop track Karma, from the band Stray Kids, you might have spotted an unusual cameo in the last scene. League of Legends Pro Gamer Faker (Lee Sang-hyeok) appears and performs his classic “shh” pose. He plays the part of a gamer who is revealed to have been controlling all the sporting events in the video.

If you’re yet to fall prey to a K-Pop addiction, this might seem an odd footnote to the latest Stray Kids banger, but to the stans it’s not that weird. The group actually gave Faker a shout out on its 2023 album 5-STAR in the song Hall of Fame, calling him “the Faker who will overturn this game board.”

Stray Kids formed in South Korea in 2017 and as well as building an intimidating fan base and releasing six studio albums, the group has contributed an original track for the Deadpool and Wolverine soundtrack and worked with artists Young Miko and Tom Morello to create a song for Arcane season 2 on Netflix.

“We were lucky, I think they were on tour at the time, and we somehow found time for them to do a demo — and we’re like, oh sh–, this could be really cool,” Arcane co-creator and showrunner Christian Linke said in an interview. “There [are] League players amongst Stray Kids, and so I think it was this suggestion of, hey, maybe this could work.”

Karma comes from the new Stray Kids album Ceremony, which was released on August 22 and sold 2 million copies on day one, according to the band’s agency JYP Entertainment. You can see the full video here, but just know that K-Pop should be a controlled substance. Even just a 30 second curious glance could result in an intense and lifelong Stray Kids addiction.
