Pokémon Pokopia is getting an IKEA collaboration inspired by Pikachu and Snorlax, and you can grab the new items starting tomorrow

I don’t know about you, dear reader, but much like Eurogamer’s Matt Wales, I can’t stop playing Pokémon Pokopia. It’s my favourite Nintendo first-party release in a bit, and its breadth and depth is simply astounding. Now, following its financial success, post-launch plans are beginning to ramp up, and the first big collaboration is with… IKEA.

Yep, you read that right. The ready-to-assemble furniture giant is doing an official Pokémon collab, which makes total sense after the initial surprise and when you think about it for like five seconds. Most of your time in-game after you’ve finished every main quest will be spent building and decorating endless exteriors as well as interiors, so this feels like a no-brainer, actually.

Serebii pointed out the event would kick off as soon as tomorrow, 1st April, but make no mistake: This isn’t an early April Fools’ joke. You can get the full rundown on what The Pokémon Company, Nintendo, and IKEA have planned together right here, and you have to admit those new in-game items are looking super cute.

Pokopia players will only need to enter the time-limited event code in-game to visit this new island in the same way we can visit the famous Developer Island and other curated ones. As for the code, fans in Japan will be able to find it at IKEA stores that will have themed rooms between 1st April and 10th May. The event inside the game is available until 30th June though.

The second surprise is that two different rooms sets, one inspired by Pikachu and another one by Snorlax, will be available to scan so you can build them back home whenever you want. Those wooden pieces on the furniture certainly have that IKEA look to them, and I can see the more colourful items becoming favourites too.

Later in April, we’re expecting the next “new Pokémon” event to start in-game, with Sableye showing up ready to join the players’ towns. While Pokémon Pokopia isn’t doing the whole “roadmap” thing in the traditional sense, it seems it’ll be regularly updated with new content for the foreseeable.
