Resident Evil Requiem Fan Who Registered Secret In-Game Website Says He’ll Give Capcom the Domain Back for Free — if They Get in Touch

A YouTuber has said they will “return” ownership of a website address that Capcom hid in Resident Evil Requiem, if the game’s publisher was to get in contact.

The website’s URL, NEWDAWN-capcom.com, was widely shared on social media earlier this week, after being discovered on an in-game computer screen. As of today, however, the site hosts contact information for Gabe Follower, a YouTuber and Valve fan.

What’s going on here? Speaking to IGN today, Gabe Follower said he’d simply seen the website URL being discussed online and was amazed to find Capcom didn’t own it already — so took the plunge himself, for just $15.

“I really like RE games and was scrolling through news after finishing Requiem,” Gabe Follower told IGN. “Saw someone talking about this domain and decided to check it. I was genuinely surprised no one registered it, so I’ve spent $15 bucks just for fun.”

Gabe Follower said he had several other ideas for the domain, including the creation of a whole fake ARG designed to “entertain” fans — before he would presumably own up to it not being official. “I was too lazy for that,” he admitted, though at least did not go forward with his other plan, which was to simply redirect visitors to the internet’s infamous Rickroll video.

To date, Capcom has not been in touch about him owning the domain — which, presumably, the publisher had planned to do something with. (Maybe they will be in touch now, after all the media attention?)

But if Capcom did get in touch? “I will give it ‘back’ for free, lol,” Gabe Fan concluded.

While we wait to hear more on Capcom’s plans for the future of Resident Evil Requiem, which include a photo mode, mini-game and story DLC, IGN’s Resident Evil: Requiem guide will help you every step of the way through RE9 if you’re still playing.

Take note of these key tips and tricks before you get started, and focus on finding these important items early. Plus, our comprehensive walkthrough will make sure you don’t miss a single Bobblehead or file as you try to survive from the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center all the way to Raccoon City.
